Some projects feel less like a business deal and more like a responsibility. That was exactly the case when the Shri Hanuman Devasthan Trust in Chandpur, Tumsar (Bhandara) reached out to us. If you’ve ever visited this temple, you know it’s tucked away in a beautiful, dense forest area. The Trust committee, led by Mr. Gabbar Singh Rawat, had a simple but critical goal: they needed a shelter for the thousands of devotees who stand in line to worship, keeping them safe from the brutal Vidarbha sun and the sudden forest rains.
The "Monkey Business" Challenge
Most people think about wind or rain when designing a courtyard tensile shade, but in Chandpur, we had a different "client" to consider: the monkeys. The area is full of them, and they love to jump on roofs. A typical metal sheet would get dented or create a deafening noise, and a cheap plastic shed wouldn't last a week.
We sat down with Rawat ji and suggested a specific Sioen tensile fabric. The beauty of this material is its "bounce." When a monkey jumps on it, the tension allows the fabric to absorb the impact and spring back without any damage. It was a solution that finally gave the committee some peace of mind.
Blending into the Greenery
Another major concern was the look. Being in a forest, a bright white or blue roof would have looked like an eyesore. Our owner, Mr. Harshal Khapekar, spent a lot of time helping the committee understand how a green color tensile shed would blend perfectly with the surrounding trees. We eventually went with a deep nature-green fabric from Sioen, paired with an Apollo ISI marked heavy-duty mild steel structure finished in epoxy white. It looks clean, modern, but somehow feels like it belongs in the woods.
Beating the Clock (and the Forest Terrain)
Our engineer, Mr. Shubham Koche, really had his work cut out for him. Between the frequent electricity issues in the forest and the challenge of moving heavy material around old, preserved trees, the logistics were tough. The initial timeline for the tensile roof for auditorium and courtyard spaces was three months.
However, by deploying extra resources and streamlining the fabrication, we finished the whole thing in just two months. Harshal ji also worked closely with the Trust to plan the renovation in a way that actually saved them money compared to their original budget. Seeing the government authorities inspect the site and give a "satisfactory" approval—and then immediately ask us to look at another site—was the best validation we could ask for.
Built to Last 30 Years
We told the committee clearly: this isn't a temporary fix. The steel structure is built to last 30 years, and the fabric carries a life of 15+ years. And the best part? Maintenance is just a simple pressure wash. No complicated chemicals, just water.
