There is something about a curved roof that makes people stop and look.
We have noticed this repeatedly while working on tensile membrane structures across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and other parts of central India. A conventional entrance can protect visitors from sun and rain, but a well-designed tensile canopy can do something more—it can become the first visual memory of a place.
This is where the idea of the “wave” entrance becomes interesting, especially for resorts and hospitality projects in Rajasthan.
When the entrance becomes part of the experience
Imagine arriving at a Rajasthan resort just before sunset. The landscape is warm, earthy and open. Then, against that backdrop, a sweeping fabric canopy rises and falls like a wave. There are no bulky columns dominating the entrance. Instead, the steel structure and tensioned membrane create a clean, flowing form.
During the day, the fabric provides shade and weather protection. As evening arrives, carefully planned lighting can make the membrane softly glow, turning the entrance into an architectural feature rather than simply a shelter.
That is the real freedom of form offered by tensile architecture.
With rigid roofing, the design often follows what the material allows. With a tensile membrane, the design can work in the opposite direction—the desired form can guide the structure. Curves, peaks, waves and flowing entrance canopies become possible without making the structure unnecessarily heavy.
Why this works particularly well for resorts
Hospitality spaces are not judged only by their rooms or amenities. The arrival experience matters.
A distinctive iconic entrance canopy can help a resort feel memorable from the moment a guest walks in. It can also create a natural backdrop for photographs, weddings, events and evening gatherings.
For Rajasthan properties, this visual character can complement the region's architecture without copying it. A modern architectural tensile design can sit comfortably alongside stone, sandstone colours, landscaped courtyards and traditional design elements.
The membrane itself also has practical advantages. Depending on the specification, PVC or PTFE fabrics can offer strong weather resistance, UV protection and controlled daylight. Their translucency can bring soft natural light underneath the roof, while the lightweight construction can reduce the amount of structural steel compared with many conventional roofing approaches.
And there is another advantage that often gets overlooked: installation.
Because major components can be prefabricated, site work can be comparatively quick and organised, which is useful when a resort wants to minimise disruption to its operations.
The design is only half the job

Our work generally starts with a site visit and inspection. We look at the available space, access, existing structures, drainage, wind conditions and the actual purpose of the canopy. From there, the concept moves into 3D design, structural drawings, material selection, fabrication, supply and complete installation.
That end-to-end approach matters because a beautiful wave on a computer screen is not enough. The finished structure has to perform in real weather, fit the site properly and remain practical for the people using it.
