Building something isn't just about steel and fabric; it’s about the people you meet and the problems you solve along the way. A few months ago, we wrapped up a project in Raipur that really reminded me why I love what we do at FV INFRA LLP.
Our client, Samit Mishra, reached out because he needed a tensile structure vehicle parking canopy for his home in Pandri. If you know that area, you know it’s a beautiful spot, but the Chhattisgarh sun can be brutal. Initially, Samit was, understandably, a bit overwhelmed. Between the design options, material choices, and the "what-ifs" about cost, he had a lot on his plate.
Working alongside architect Roshanullah Khan was a breath of fresh air. Roshanullah had a clear vision, but Samit needed a bit more convincing on the technical side. He’d ask us, "How many guys are going to be in my driveway?" or "Is this thing actually going to last through a monsoon?" We sat down over some tea and just talked it out. I told him we’d have about 7 or 8 of our best guys on-site to make sure we weren't dragging our feet—aiming to wrap everything in under two weeks.
One thing that surprised Samit was the longevity. People often think of "fabric" as temporary, but when you’re using heavy-duty material like Serge Ferrari or Mehler (we ended up going with a 900 GSM, PVDF-coated white fabric), you’re looking at 15 years for the roof and over 30 for the steel. We used Apollo YST 210 grade steel—the heavy-duty stuff—and finished it with a crisp white epoxy paint.
The coolest part of the transition? It started as just a place to park cars. But as the designer canopy took shape, we realized the space felt like an outdoor lounge. We tweaked the height and flow so Samit could sit out there with a cup of tea, completely shielded from UV rays and heat. He loved that pivot.
It wasn't all smooth sailing, though. Raipur decided to throw some heavy wind our way right in the middle of the installation, and we had to work around several established trees on the property that we refused to cut down. Plus, the sheer size of this canopy was much larger than your standard residential job. We had to go with higher gauge steel pipes to ensure that even in a storm, that fabric stays wrinkle-free and rock-solid.
I remember watching our team handle the welding and the compressor painting. It’s those minute details—the way the fabric tension is dialed in—that make an interior designer or a professional builder stop and take notice. When we finished, the look on Samit’s face made the long days worth it. He’s got factories all over the country, and he actually asked where else we could do this.
